After years of being assaulted by reports of rising crime, violence in the streets, a tidal wave of immigrants, an economy in ruins, rampant disrespect and outright derision of American and Christian values (even a war on Christmas!), homosexual predators on the loose, aborted fetuses sold to criminal scientists, climate change hoaxes concocted to undermine and impoverish hard-working businessmen, the rise of a secret world government of elites with the goal of enslaving all to achieve their as yet unknown but obviously evil ends, the utter rejection of the Bible as the source of knowledge and truth and the embrace of humanist, secular ideological apostasy, and the inevitable disarming of every God-fearing, flag-loving, American patriot, all culminating in the election of a black man to be President of the United States—not once, but twice!—honest, decent, hard-working American citizens were anxious, and sure they had economic anxiety, but their anxiety was deeper and broader than just the fear of going broke: they feared for their very souls, because they knew after a lifetime of hysterical reporting from the cultural frontlines that they were beset on all sides and in every quarter by the forces of evil, relentless and ubiquitous forces which take many guises, many forms, and which manifest in every quarter, surrounding them, taunting them, disparaging them, humiliating them—and the leader of these forces, the black president, reigned over them proudly, haughtily, as if Beezlebub himself, and perhaps he was indeed Satan come to rule the earth.
Is it any wonder that these people were anxious, economically or otherwise? And is there any question about who those suffering from Republican Anxiety Disorder (RAD) would vote for when faced with a choice between the she-devil companion of the black president and the white businessman hero who promised to drain the swamp, build the wall, and make America great again?
Now, with their savior in the White House, they no longer have to live in a perpetual state of fear, hiding, ready to flee. Now they can fight. They can say what they want, do what they must. What a relief after those 8 years of hell!
Meanwhile, the purveyors of RAD, emboldened by their unexpected electoral success and new-found power, do not and will not rest. Their subjects must always remain anxious and must always be seeking relief so they can continue to boost the sales of their best-selling snake oil brands: “tax cuts,”“strong military,”“Christian nation,”“self reliance,”“guns are good,”“deportation,” and their newest, most promising line, “white supremacy.” RAD is a cash cow.
