Previously, I mentioned that at the end of January I took a comprehensive neuropsychological exam to get some diagnoses. Welp, I got the results back a couple weeks ago.

So some background first. I had noticed that my teaching was suffering. I was having trouble keeping a routine, or the routine I was keeping was a poor one that may have been an offshoot of all my life experiences in school and out. Habits I’ve learned as a child and a student, things I assume about how others learn based on my life experiences, and such like.
So I went for the battery. I had over ten different tests given to me. Some I used manipulatives, some were computer based, some were drawing, some were me writing down thoughts or doing “scale of 1-5” questions, some were math based, some were spelling and vocabulary based. The full gamut.
And the results: Thanks to therapy and meds, my depression levels are and have been for some time in the mild range. I have bad days, but I’m coping. The tests did show a high level of anxiety and also of ADHD. The tests also revealed symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. So I have an official coded diagnosis of anxiety, ADHD, and ASD.
Now what?
This is the reason I took all these tests. The “Now What” portion. How do I structure myself and my mental existence to improve bad teaching habits, move forward, and all that life stuff I can’t quite put into words? How do I channel my neurodivergence into effective teaching?
Now my therapist and prescriber can more effectively dial in my meds.
That’s the journey I’ve taken the first step on. Let’s see how far I can go.
And now, on to Tops!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? So far no submissions tonight.
