How Ya' Feelin'?
Awright my friends, this is it, Election Day. This is what it's all about. You've studied, you've strategized, you've schemed. You've donated, canvassed, put up signs and phonebanked. Maybe you'll spend the day getting voters to the polls. Now comes the uncertainty, now we wait. One thing is for sure, there won't be a big turnout. To me, every election, every two years, is equally important. Not so for most Americans, they just don't get fired up for midterm elections.

In 2010, the last midterm election, more people watched the Superbowl than voted. It'll probably be the same this year. What's up with that ? I think it's cultural. Americans like to have a #1. The Superbowl decides the #1 professional football team, the World Series gives us a #1, so does the NCAA basketball championship. No #1 in the midterm elections. Only in Presidential years do we get a #1 politician, so Americans don't really care.
That's crazy if you ask me. 36 states, including Arizona, will elect governors this year. Your state's governor is more important to you than the President of the United States, your state legislature has more impact on your life than the US Senate. Most of the laws we live under are state laws, not federal ones. State races matter. Here's a little video on that subject, big tip o' the hat to Eric Nelson.
It's the Arizona governor's race that's got me worried. We've got a bunch of half-wits, racists and nut-jobs in our legislature and, until we can turn the state ledge blue, we desperately need a sensible governor to veto the worst of their bills, a governor who would have vetoed SB1070. Fred DuVal would be such a governor and this is the race I'll be watching tonight.
So there you have it, today's the day ...
