Anxiety and Action: A short poem for the restless souls

I realize how much the results from four years ago changed us. Yes, we all became anxious, but this anxiety led to greater activism at all levels. There are more volunteers making calls even when they are busy with work. More common people are donating money from their savings accounts to “save the nation”. There is more ‘sense of action’ everywhere - stronger candidates running for local statehouses, more numerous podcasts, more activists, and more volunteers. This action and civic engagement is something that we have never seen before, and this is something that I am definitely proud of within my household.

As I was reflecting on our journey for the last four years, a poem evolved.

This gut-wrenching anxiety,

which cuts us our soul -

like a deep-seated

wound.

Albeit we lament,

we decline to wither

in this

paralyzing pain.

We will show

the corrupt politicians

that we are no

pushovers.

we will show

these evil oppressors

that we will not be

overwhelmed.

We will kick them out,

once and for all -

to open the way

for a new dawn.

We will  restore

the soul of the nation,

to

Build Back Better.

We are on the home stretch now. I am so proud of all the citizen activism and civic engagement at all levels. As hard as the last four years have been, this level of engagement (and anxiety) shows how much we all love our country.
